This Privacy Policy describes how MEETYOURCLASS INC. (“MeetYourClass,” “Company,” “we,” “us,” or “our”) collects, uses, discloses, and safeguards your personal information when you use our website and related services (collectively, the “Service”) located at https://www.meetyourclass.com/. MEETYOURCLASS INC. is a company based in Michigan, United States, and we are committed to protecting your privacy. By accessing or using the Service, you agree to the practices outlined in this Privacy Policy. If you do not agree with these practices, please do not use the Service.
For purposes of this Privacy Policy, certain terms are defined as follows:
Account: A unique user profile that allows you to access and use parts of the Service.
Device: Any internet-connected hardware device (such as a computer, smartphone, or tablet) used to access the Service.
Personal Data: Information that relates to an identified or identifiable individual (also referred to as personal information).
Service Provider: Any third party that processes data on our behalf to facilitate the Service (for example, cloud hosting or analytics providers).
Third-Party Social Media Service: An external platform (e.g., Google) that you may use to log in or interact with the Service.
Usage Data: Data collected automatically about how you use the Service (for example, IP address and pages visited).
You or User: The individual using the Service, or the entity such individual represents (for example, an educational institution on whose behalf an individual is using the Service).
We collect various types of information from and about users in order to operate our Service effectively, as detailed below.
a. Personal Data (information you provide or that is inferred through use): This includes the data you submit to us directly as well as profile information generated by your activities on the Service. For example:
Contact Information: First and last name, email address, and phone number.
Demographic Details: Date of birth.
Social Media Identifiers: Social-media usernames or handles
Profile Content: Photographs you upload to your profile, and any tags, interests, or self-descriptions you select for your profile (e.g. interests or personal traits you choose to display, such as “Extrovert” or “Living Off-Campus”).
Education-Related Information: Your school choices, application status, or other academic preferences that you input into the Service.
Location Insight: An approximate location such as your city and state (for example, “Detroit, MI”), which may be derived from information you provide or your IP address.
Platform-Generated Data: Scores, ratings, or recommendations generated by our platform about you – for instance, an engagement rating or preference score that helps match you with relevant content or communities.
b. Usage Data (collected automatically): We automatically gather certain technical and usage information when you interact with our Service. This Usage Data may include, for example: your device’s IP address; browser type and version; device type or unique identifiers; the pages or features you access and the time spent on them; the dates and times of your visits; and other diagnostic or analytical data related to your usage (such as clicks on links or content and the flow of your interaction within the Service). This information helps us understand how the Service is being used, troubleshoot issues, and improve performance.
c. Information from Third-Party Social Media Services: If you choose to register or log in to MeetYourClass through a third-party platform (for example, by using “Sign in with Google”), we receive certain information from that platform. This can include data like your name and email address (and, in some cases, other information such as your contacts list), as allowed by the privacy settings of the account you use to log in. We use this information to streamline account creation and connect you with your network on our Service. In addition, we utilize Google’s reCAPTCHA service to protect our platform from spam and abuse. This means that when you use certain features (such as signing up or submitting forms), reCAPTCHA may collect hardware and software information (like your IP address and mouse movements) and process that data for the purpose of distinguishing between human users and automated bots. Data collected by reCAPTCHA is subject to Google’s Privacy Policy; it is used strictly for security analysis and not for any advertising purposes.
We do not use persistent tracking technologies (such as cookies, flash cookies, or web beacons) for our own core platform functionality beyond what is necessary for security and user session management. However, some of our third-party service providers – as listed in §5.1 – may employ cookies or similar technologies to support analytics and improve performance of the Service. For example, analytics services like Google Analytics and PostHog may place cookies in your browser to collect Usage Data (described above) and provide insight into how users interact with our Service.
To be transparent, below are the key types of tracking technologies that may be in use and their purposes, as well as how you can control them:
Cookies (Analytics): Small data files placed on your device by our analytics tools or third-party providers to track usage patterns, user engagement, and other metrics that help us enhance the Service. Purpose: These cookies collect information on how you navigate and use our platform, which we analyze to improve functionality and content. Your Control: You can manage or disable cookies through your web browser’s settings. In addition, tools like Google’s own opt-out browser add-on allow you to opt out of Google Analytics data collection on websites.
Local Storage: We may utilize your browser’s local storage or similar technologies to remember your preferences and maintain your session (for example, keeping you logged in or remembering interface settings). Purpose: This helps provide a smoother user experience by retaining your settings and state as you navigate the Service. Your Control: You can clear your browser’s cached data and local storage at any time through your browser settings, which will remove stored preferences (and you may need to re-enter information or login credentials afterwards).
Request Logs: Our servers automatically record certain details of every request or action you take on the Service (often referred to as log files). Purpose: These logs (which can include IP addresses, browser type, pages visited, and timestamps of actions) are used for security purposes (e.g., detecting malicious activity), bug diagnosis, and overall improvement of the Service. They also help us ensure the stability and integrity of the platform. Your Control: While you cannot opt out of logging (as it is necessary for safe and reliable service), we limit retention of log data. Logged information is retained only as long as your account is active and needed for operation, or until you request deletion of your data (see §7 on Data Retention for details).
Please note that any cookies or similar tracking technologies employed by third-party providers are governed by those providers’ own privacy policies. For instance, if Google Analytics sets a cookie, Google’s privacy policy will apply to the information collected through that cookie. You have the ability to manage your preferences related to third-party tracking: you can adjust your browser settings to block or delete cookies, and you may use third-party tools or browser extensions to opt out of certain tracking. For example, Google provides settings at Google Ad Settings that allow you to control personalized advertising and related tracking on its services. Bear in mind that disabling cookies or trackers may affect some functionality of the Service (especially analytical insights, which we use to improve the Service), but core features should remain accessible.
3.3 Social Media Monitoring
We engage in limited monitoring of public social media content in order to enhance our community features and provide insights to our partner institutions, but only in ways that respect your privacy settings and choices. Specifically:
If you link your Instagram (or other supported platform) to your MeetYourClass profile, we may collect your account name/handle, public bio, and profile photo. We use this information to verify student identity, suggest relevant communities and groups, and provide high-level enrollment interest indicators to University Partners, consistent with this Policy and our partner agreements. We do not ingest or analyze your posts or messages.
We also track engagements with certain links that we or our partner institutions publish on social media platforms. For instance, if we post an announcement or community content on Instagram that includes a link to our Service, we may track whether users click those links and how that traffic interacts with our platform. This helps us analyze the effectiveness of community-building efforts and understand user interest originating from social channels.
Importantly, we do not and will not access any private social media content. We never attempt to read your private messages, view hidden profiles, or collect information from social media accounts that you have set as private or restricted. Our social media monitoring is limited to public interactions (and only those relevant to our Service) and to data you have explicitly shared or linked.
Note: Even if an account is set to “private,” platforms may still make certain elements publicly viewable (e.g., handle, profile photo, and bio). We may process those publicly viewable elements for the limited purposes described above.
Legal Basis for Social Media Data Processing:
If you reside in a jurisdiction governed by the GDPR (General Data Protection Regulation, such as the European Economic Area or the UK): Our processing of publicly available social media information is based on our legitimate interests. Specifically, we have a legitimate interest in improving our Service and facilitating community and enrollment-related insights for educational institutions, and we carry out this processing in a way that is balanced against your individual rights and freedoms. We only collect public data and use it in support of user engagement and institutional objectives, which we believe does not override your privacy expectations given the public nature of the data.
If you reside in California or a U.S. state with similar privacy laws: Under applicable law (for example, California law), information that you have made public on social media – such as content on a public profile – is generally not considered “private” personal information. In other words, collecting and using information from a publicly available source is typically permitted. That said, we still take care to use such information responsibly and in accordance with this Policy and your rights.
If you have any concerns about our use of social media information or wish to exercise any of your privacy rights in relation to this data, you can do so as described in §6 below (for example, you may opt out of certain processing or request deletion of data).
We use the Personal Data we collect for a variety of purposes intended to operate, enhance, and secure our Service, as well as to communicate with you. Specifically, we process Personal Data (and related Usage Data) to:
Provide and Maintain the Service: We use your information to deliver core functionality, including creating and authenticating user accounts, allowing you to log in and access the platform, and ensuring the Service performs correctly on your Device. We also monitor user activity and technical performance (e.g., loading times, error logs) to maintain reliable service and quickly address any issues.
Manage Accounts and Personalize Your Experience: We use your data to administer your Account and profile, including displaying your provided information (like your name or profile photo) to other users as you direct. We may also personalize the content you see – for example, suggesting relevant communities or other users to connect with based on your interests, or tailoring the order of content to your engagement patterns.
Fulfill Contracts and Enable Partner Communities: If you sign up for specific products or services through MeetYourClass, or you join a community associated with one of our partner universities or institutions, we use your information to fulfill those arrangements. For example, we might use your enrollment information to verify your eligibility to join a university’s admitted students community on our platform, or to provide you with access to features sponsored by that institution. In short, we process data as needed to honor the agreements and services that you or our partners sign up for.
Communicate with You for Service-Related Purposes: We will send you important communications about your use of the Service. This includes emails or notifications to inform you of key account events (such as registration confirmations, password resets, or account deletion confirmations), updates about features or technical matters, customer service responses to inquiries you’ve sent, and security alerts (for instance, if we detect unusual activity on your account or need to inform you about a policy change or data breach). These communications are necessary for operating the platform safely and effectively, and are not promotional in nature.
Send Marketing & Promotional Communications (with Consent): By creating an account and accepting this Privacy Policy, you consent to receive email and in-app marketing from MeetYourClass about features, updates, and student-relevant services. You may opt out at any time (see §6). We may send security and account-related SMS (e.g., verification codes, login alerts) to the phone number you provide for 2FA. You can revoke SMS consent at any time by replying STOP.
Respond to Your Requests and Inquiries: If you reach out to us via a contact form, support request, feedback survey, or any other means, we will use the information you provided (such as your email and the content of your request) to address your questions, resolve issues, or improve our Service. For instance, if you ask for technical help, we will review your user data and logs as needed to troubleshoot; if you provide feedback on a feature, we may contact you for follow-up or implement changes based on your suggestions.
Conduct Analytics and Product Improvement: We continuously strive to make MeetYourClass better. We analyze Personal Data and Usage Data to understand user behavior and preferences. For example, we might review which features are most used, what times of day have the highest activity, or how user engagement varies between different content. This analysis may be done in aggregate (across many users) or on an individual basis where necessary. The insights we gain help us fix bugs, optimize the user interface, improve content relevance, and generally enhance the user experience for everyone.
Provide Insights to Partner Institutions: We work with certain university and college partners that use MeetYourClass as a tool to engage with prospective or admitted students. In line with our agreements with these partners (and as detailed in §5.2 below), we use Personal Data to generate reports and insights for them related to student engagement. For example, we might inform a partner university about overall community activity levels (engagement indicators), trending topics among the admitted students community (behavior trends), or data related to the admissions funnel (for instance, how many students engaging on our platform have completed certain application milestones). These insights help the institution with enrollment management, such as identifying which admitted students might need additional outreach (“yield” analysis), understanding geographic areas with high engagement, or detecting patterns that could indicate students at risk of “melting” (not enrolling). All such uses of data for partner insights are done under contractual restrictions and with respect for student privacy (see §5.2 for more details on limitations).
Develop and Train Algorithms & Models: We may use data (often in aggregated, anonymized, or pseudonymized form) to internally develop new features and improve our technology. For example, we might use a collection of engagement data to train a recommendation algorithm that suggests better matches between students, or to train a model that identifies and highlights the most helpful content in a community. When we say “pseudonymized datasets,” we mean that we transform Personal Data in a way that individuals are not readily identifiable (for instance, replacing names and emails with unique ID codes) and then use those datasets for research, development, and analytics. These processes help us enhance the accuracy, efficiency, and usefulness of the Service while minimizing the use of directly identifiable information.
We use reputable service providers (e.g., Vercel, Google Firebase, Stripe, PostHog, Google Analytics, Amazon SES, Twilio, Sentry, Google reCAPTCHA) that process Personal Data on our behalf to host, deliver, secure, and monitor the Service. These providers act as our processors under their standard customer terms and data-processing addenda and are contractually restricted to using Personal Data only to provide their services to us.
MeetYourClass collaborates with certain universities, colleges, or educational programs (“University Partners”) that use our platform to engage with students. If you choose to interact with a University Partner through our Service – for example, by joining a school’s community on MeetYourClass, expressing interest in a specific institution, or engaging with content linked to that institution – we may share relevant portions of your Personal Data with that University Partner. We only do this in cases where the institution has a formal relationship with us (typically via a license or service agreement) and under strict conditions designed to respect your privacy and comply with educational privacy laws. In particular, any disclosures to University Partners:
Are limited to partners with a formal agreement: We will only share your information with an educational institution if that institution has entered into a contract or partnership with MeetYourClass. In other words, your data is not available to random universities – only those schools that you are actively engaging with on our platform and that have agreed to work with us will receive your information.
Comply with FERPA (where applicable): If the data we share is subject to the Family Educational Rights and Privacy Act (FERPA) or similar student privacy laws, we will handle it in compliance with those laws. In practice, this means we treat ourselves as a “school official” for the institution under FERPA and only disclose information that the institution is permitted to have for legitimate educational interests. We also ensure that any data shared aligns with what our contract with the institution allows. We do not disclose education records or personal information beyond what the school itself has authorized us to provide.
Include only necessary data fields: We follow the principle of data minimization when sharing with University Partners. This means we share the minimum amount of information needed for the institution’s purposes, and nothing more. Typically, this includes things like your name and contact information, the fact that you are using the platform as an admitted or prospective student, and your engagement metrics or preferences relevant to enrollment (for example, whether you’ve joined the school’s community, events you’ve participated in, interests you’ve indicated, etc.). Any category of data that the institution is not authorized to view or does not need for its enrollment management efforts will not be shared. We do not share personal conversations, sensitive personal profiles, or anything not pertinent to the school’s outreach and support of students.
Are used for educational purposes by the institution: The University Partner may use the information we provide strictly for legitimate purposes related to admissions and student engagement. For example, the school might use the data to analyze its admissions yield (determining how many engaged students ultimately enroll), to identify students who might benefit from additional outreach (engagement scoring to reduce “melt,” i.e., students who commit but later fail to matriculate), or to tailor their communications and events to common interests in the incoming class. All such uses are in service of educational or administrative functions, not for general marketing unrelated to the university’s programs.
To give you a clearer picture, here is how a University Partner typically accesses and uses data from MeetYourClass: The institution’s authorized staff (e.g., admissions or student engagement officers) can log into our platform and view dashboards or reports about their student community’s activity. They might see aggregated statistics (like overall engagement rates) and, in some cases, student-level details (like whether a particular student has joined a discussion or shown interest in a topic). In addition, we allow partner institutions to securely export the Personal Data we share into their own internal systems for further use. For instance, many universities use Customer Relationship Management (CRM) software such as Slate by Technolutions, Salesforce, Element451, Anthology, or Ellucian. If an institution uses such a system for admissions or outreach, they may export data from MeetYourClass (e.g. a list of students and their engagement attributes) into their CRM to integrate with the rest of their admissions data. This export is typically done through secure means provided by our platform or via data files shared through protected channels. Once the data is in the university’s systems, it is subject to the university’s privacy policy and data protection practices as well as any contractual restrictions we have required (for example, that they cannot share it onward without consent, and that they must delete it if our agreement ends or upon student request when required).
Important Privacy Protections: We want to emphasize that we do not share everything with University Partners. Specifically, we do not give institutions any access to your private communications on MeetYourClass. This means your direct messages with other users, any private group discussions that are not part of the official school community, and similar non-public interactions remain confidential and are not visible to the school. Similarly, we do not share or monitor any social media content of yours for the institution beyond what is already publicly available (and even that public info would only be referenced in aggregate for analysis, as described in §3.3, or if you yourself have linked it to your profile). In short, your personal conversations and content stay private; the school only sees what they legitimately need to see to support you as an incoming or prospective student.
Apart from our educational partners, MeetYourClass may also work with a small number of third-party organizations that provide services or offers which could be valuable to our users (for example, services related to life as a student or future education opportunities). We give you the option to connect with these third-party partners, but we will only share your data with them if you have given consent. By agreeing to this Privacy Policy and not opting out of such sharing, you are indicating your consent for this limited data sharing. Here’s how it works and what it entails:
Who are these third-party organizations? They typically fall into categories that are relevant to prospective students, current students, or recent graduates. For example:
Student Housing Providers: Companies that offer housing solutions, dorm alternatives, or apartment communities catering to college students. They might want to reach out with information about housing options near your campus.
Graduate and Professional Programs: Accredited universities or organizations that offer graduate school programs, professional certificates, or other educational opportunities that could be of interest as you progress in your academic or career journey.
Undergraduate Programs: Colleges and universities seeking to share information about their academic offerings, admissions, or scholarships.
Scholarship Providers: Organizations that provide grants, awards, or contests designed to support students financially.
Financial Services for Students: Reputable financial institutions or services that have products for students or young adults – such as student-friendly banking accounts, scholarship programs, loan providers, or credit card companies. Only well-established and trustworthy companies are considered.
Dorm Essentials & Student Lifestyle Companies: Businesses that offer products or services such as furniture, tech accessories, moving services, storage services, or other essentials designed to improve student life.
What data would be shared? Only a limited set of your Personal Data that is necessary for these partners to contact you would be shared. Typically, this includes your name, contact information (such as email address and/or phone number), general location (e.g., city and state or region, so they know you’re in their service area), and educational interest (for instance, which school you are attending or have applied to, or broad fields of study if relevant). We might also share an indicator of your class status (e.g., incoming freshman, prospective graduate student) if relevant. We do not share any sensitive personal details for these marketing purposes – for example, we will not share your profile photo, personal descriptions or traits from your profile, the content of your posts or messages, or any demographic details like your date of birth beyond what’s relevant (age range might be inferred in some cases, but specific dates of birth are never explicitly provided). Essentially, partners get just enough information to reach out to you with an appropriate message, and nothing more.
What will these third parties do with your data? They may use the provided contact information to send you one-to-one communications such as emails, text messages, or physical mail with offers, information, or opportunities they believe are relevant to you as a student. For example, a student housing provider might email you about open housing options for the upcoming semester, or a graduate school might send a brochure about a program in a field you have shown interest in. These communications could reference the fact that you are a MeetYourClass user or an admitted student to a certain university (if that context is why they got your info), but they are fundamentally from the third party, about their product or service. Importantly, these communications are supposed to be limited to the scope we intend – informing you about products or services that we have deemed potentially valuable for students in your position.
What these third parties are NOT allowed to do: We impose strict limitations on our marketing partners. They cannot sell your information onward or add it to broad marketing lists for unrelated purposes. They cannot use your data to profile you beyond what is needed to offer you their specific service. For instance, if we share your name and email with a housing provider, it is solely so they can contact you about housing; they are not permitted to transfer your information to another company or use it to target you with ads outside of that context. We contractually require that any data shared be used only for the specific outreach campaign or purpose we agreed upon. They must also comply with all relevant laws (such as CAN-SPAM for emails, or providing opt-out links in communications).
Your Choice – Opt-In and Opt-Out: We consider you “opted in” to this data sharing only if you have accepted this Privacy Policy and not exercised your opt-out rights. If you do not want us to share your data with any third-party marketers, you have the right and ability to prevent it. You can either decline to accept this portion of the Policy (in which case, practically, you should not use the Service or should immediately contact us to express your preference) or, more conveniently, you can opt out at any time after sign-up. §6 below details how to opt out (for example, by adjusting your settings). We will not share any of your data with new third-party marketing partners once you have opted out, and we will instruct our partners to stop contacting you if you withdraw consent. Opting out of third-party marketing will not affect your ability to use MeetYourClass; it will only stop these external communications and data sharing.
Business Transfers: As our company grows and evolves, we might undergo transactions such as mergers, acquisitions, reorganizations, or asset sales. In the event that MeetYourClass is involved in a merger, acquisition, investment financing, reorganization, bankruptcy, receivership, sale of company assets, or a similar business transaction, your Personal Data may be transferred to or shared with the parties involved (for example, a succeeding entity or a potential acquiring company and its advisors). If such a transfer occurs, we will ensure that your data remains subject to confidentiality obligations and is protected in a manner consistent with this Privacy Policy. The new entity that receives your Personal Data will be required to honor the commitments we have made here, and we will notify you (for example, via email or a prominent notice on our Service) if your Personal Data becomes subject to a different privacy policy as a result of a business change.
Legal Compliance and Protection: We may also disclose Personal Data to third parties outside of the scope of our everyday operations if we determine in good faith that such disclosure is necessary to:
Comply with the law or legal process. If we receive a lawful subpoena, court order, or other legally binding request (for example, from law enforcement or a regulatory agency), we may be required to share the requested Personal Data. We will only do so after verifying the legitimacy of the request and only provide the minimum data necessary to comply. Where allowed, we may attempt to notify you of such requests.
Protect rights and enforce agreements. We may share information if needed to enforce our own legal rights or the terms and conditions of our Service (such as our Terms of Service or this Privacy Policy). For example, if necessary, we might provide data to debt collection services for unpaid fees, or disclose information in connection with an investigation of potential violations of our terms.
Prevent harm and ensure safety. If we believe disclosure is necessary to investigate, prevent, or take action regarding illegal activities, suspected fraud, situations involving potential threats to anyone’s safety or the security of our systems, or as evidence in litigation in which we are involved, we may disclose relevant Personal Data to the proper authorities or other concerned parties. This can include exchanging information with other companies and organizations for the purposes of cybersecurity protection, fraud prevention, and credit risk reduction (in accordance with applicable laws).
In all such cases, we will limit the scope of disclosure to what is reasonably necessary and will subject the disclosure to appropriate safeguards (such as confidentiality agreements) whenever feasible. Our aim is to protect your privacy while also meeting our legal obligations and protecting the essential interests of our users, company, and community.
Privacy laws in some jurisdictions (such as California and other U.S. states) give individuals specific rights over their personal information. MeetYourClass is a growing company that, at the time of this writing, does not meet the thresholds that would make these state laws strictly applicable to us. (For example, we are under the California Consumer Privacy Act’s thresholds – we do not have >$25M annual gross revenue, or annually buying, selling, or sharing the personal information of 100,000 or more California consumers or households). Regardless, we believe in the importance of privacy rights for all users. Therefore, we voluntarily extend key data privacy rights to every user of our Service, no matter where you live in the United States. In fact, many of these rights we extend to all users globally. These rights include:
Right to Deletion: You have the right to request that we delete your Personal Data from our records. This is sometimes called the “right to be forgotten.” Keep in mind there are some exceptions in which we may retain data (for example, for legal compliance or safety as described in §7), but if those exceptions do not apply we will honor a valid deletion request by erasing your personal information.
Right to Opt Out of Sales/Sharing: You have the right to direct us not to share your Personal Data with third parties for their own marketing or other purposes. In other words, you can opt out of what privacy laws define as the “sale” or certain types of “sharing” of your personal information. As described above in §5.3, we only share data with third-party marketers if you opt in, so by default your acceptance of this Policy is treated as consent. However, you can opt out of that arrangement at any time, and we will cease such sharing. You can also opt out of receiving our own marketing emails or texts, as described below.
Right to Access: You have the right to know what Personal Data we have collected about you, and to request a copy of that information. We will provide you with the categories of data, and to the extent required (and practicable), a copy of the actual Personal Data in a commonly used format. For example, you can ask us, “What information do you have about me?” and we will respond with an overview and can provide specific details such as the profile data you gave us, logs of your activities, etc.
Right to Correction: If you believe that any Personal Data we hold about you is inaccurate or incomplete, you have the right to request that we correct (rectify) it. For instance, if you notice your email address or name is spelled incorrectly in our records (and you cannot change it yourself via the profile settings), you can ask us to fix it. In some cases, we might need to verify the correct information or ask for documentation if it’s a sensitive change, but we will make reasonable efforts to correct factual inaccuracies.
Right to Data Portability: You have the right to request a portable copy of the Personal Data you have provided to us, delivered in a format that you could take to another service (this typically means a structured, commonly used, machine-readable format like a CSV or JSON file containing your data). This is similar to the Access right, and we will provide the data in a raw form that you or another service could import and understand.
Additionally, we affirm that we will not engage in any behavior considered discriminatory or retaliatory against you for exercising these rights. This commitment of non-discrimination means that if you choose to exercise any of the above rights: we will not deny you the Service, we will not give you a different (lower quality) experience, and we will not charge you different prices or fees as a result of your request. Your privacy choices will not affect things like your ability to use features or the effectiveness of the Service (beyond the scope of the request itself – e.g., if you opt out of marketing, you just won’t receive marketing messages, which is the intended effect).
How to Exercise Your Rights: We want to make it easy for you to exercise these choices. The table below outlines the options available and how you can take action:
Opt Out of Marketing Communications: If you no longer wish to receive marketing or promotional emails from us, you can unsubscribe at any time by clicking the “Unsubscribe” link included at the bottom of any marketing email we send. For SMS/text messages, you can opt out by replying “STOP” to any message we send. You can also adjust your communication preferences by logging into the Service and navigating to your account settings (specifically the notifications or preferences section) at any time. For example, on our website you can visit Account Settings -> Notifications (meetyourclass.com/settings/account/notifications) to toggle certain types of emails or texts on or off.
Opt Out of Third-Party Data Sharing (“Do Not Sell/Share”): If you want to opt out of us sharing your Personal Data with the third-party marketing partners described in §5.3, simply let us know. The easiest way is to send an email to team@meetyourclassinc.com with the subject line “Opt-Out” and a brief message stating that you do not want your information shared with third parties for marketing. You may also contact us through our Contact form or any of the channels listed in §13 and clearly request to opt out of data sharing. Once we receive such a request and verify it’s from you, we will remove you from any future third-party data sharing arrangements. (If we have already shared your data prior to your request, we’ll address that below in this section.)
Delete Your Account & Personal Data: You are free to delete your MeetYourClass account at any time. We provide a self-service option to do this: simply visit the account deletion page while logged into your account. This page is typically found under your account settings (for example, Account Settings -> Delete Account) or directly at meetyourclass.com/settings/account/delete. By following the instructions and confirming the deletion request, your account will be permanently deleted. This process is immediate and irreversible – it will remove all of your Personal Data from our active databases. Your profile, posts, and personal information will be scrubbed from the live Service. (There may remain some data in backups or logs as noted in §7, but those will be handled as described and eventually purged.) If for some reason you cannot access the deletion page, you can also request account deletion by contacting us at our support email, and we will manually assist you.
Access or Download Your Data: If you want to know what data we have about you, or you want a copy of it, please send a request to team@meetyourclassinc.com with the subject “Data Access Request.” For your security, we may need to verify your identity (for example, by confirming your email address or asking some questions about your account) before releasing personal data. Once verified, we will compile the information and send it to you in a suitable format (often electronically via email or secure link). We aim to fulfill access requests promptly, typically within 30-45 days as guided by best practices.
Request Corrections: If you believe some Personal Data we have is wrong or outdated, you can either correct it yourself (for many fields, simply editing your profile or settings will update our records) or ask us to correct it. To request a correction via support, contact team@meetyourclassinc.com with the subject “Correction Request” and tell us what information needs updating. We might ask for verification if it’s a significant change. We’ll then make the correction or let you know if we have any questions.
Data Portability: Currently, if you request access to your data, we will naturally provide it in a portable format (like a CSV or JSON file where possible). If you have a specific need for a certain format or to transfer it directly to another service, let us know and we will do our best to accommodate.
We strive to respond to and fulfill all legitimate privacy requests. Please note that if your account is managed as part of a group or through a University Partner (for instance, if your use of MeetYourClass is via an invitation from a university), we might refer certain requests to the partner institution as appropriate (for example, if they also hold your data as a controller under FERPA or similar, they might need to coordinate deletion). But we will guide you through that if it occurs.
Important Considerations When You Exercise Rights:
If you opt out of marketing or third-party sharing, we will promptly stop any such future activity involving your data. Specifically, we will cease sending you promotional emails or texts, and we will not share your Personal Data with any new third-party marketing partners going forward. We will also inform any current third-party partner who may have received your data (prior to your opt-out) that you have opted out, and that they should not contact you further. You may still receive communications already in the process of being sent (for example, if we initiated an email campaign just before you opted out, you might get that one email), but we will work to prevent any beyond that.
If you delete your account or request deletion of data, we will remove all of your Personal Data from our active systems as described in §7. Your profile will no longer be visible anywhere on the Service, and any content you provided (posts, comments) will be disassociated from you or deleted, as appropriate. We will also immediately revoke any internal or external access to your data – for example, University Partners will no longer see your information in their dashboards once your account is deleted or once you opt out of sharing. We have designed our platform such that when a user is deleted or opts out, the university dashboard is updated to remove that user’s personal details, thereby “revoking” the institution’s access to that user’s data through our system.
Data previously shared with others: It’s important to understand that if your Personal Data has already been exported to a University Partner’s own systems (like their CRM) or shared with a third-party partner (with your prior consent), we cannot directly pull that data back or delete it from those external systems when you delete your MeetYourClass account or change your preferences. For example, if a university downloaded a report last month that included your name and email, or if a housing service already got your contact info from us and contacted you, we cannot retroactively erase that information from their records. However, our contracts and agreements with those parties require them to handle your data responsibly. Universities typically have their own retention and deletion practices governed by law (especially under education records rules and their own privacy policies). Third-party marketing partners are contractually bound to only use your data for the limited purpose we gave it to them for, and they should not continue to use it after that purpose is fulfilled or if you’ve opted out. In practice, if you’ve opted out and a third-party partner had your info, we instruct them that you have withdrawn consent. They are obligated not to contact you further and to honor any request you make to them directly as well (for example, if you unsubscribe from their emails, they must respect that).
Continued Obligations: Even after account deletion or opt-out, some data may remain in our internal backups or archives for a short period as described in §7 (e.g., in case we need it for legal reasons or disaster recovery). Rest assured, such data is isolated and protected, and eventually deleted according to our retention schedule. It is not accessible through the live Service and not shared with partners.
In summary, we aim to give you meaningful control over your Personal Data. If you have any questions or need assistance with exercising your rights, please contact us (see §13). We are here to help and want you to feel comfortable and confident in how your data is handled.
How long do we keep your information? We retain Personal Data and related Usage Data for only as long as necessary to fulfill the purposes outlined in this Privacy Policy, unless a longer retention period is required or permitted by law. In practical terms:
Active Accounts: If you have an active MeetYourClass account, we will keep your Personal Data for as long as your account remains active. This allows us to provide the Service to you continuously – for example, keeping your profile information so that you don’t have to re-enter it each time, maintaining your community posts and messages so they remain visible to you and others as intended, etc.
Service Provision and Obligations: We also retain data as needed to operate the Service features you use, to complete any transactions you’ve requested, and to satisfy any contractual obligations we owe to you or third parties (for instance, data shared with a University Partner is retained as long as necessary to serve that partner relationship and as allowed by our agreement with them).
Legal and Operational Requirements: Certain laws or legitimate business concerns may require longer retention. For example, we may need to retain certain records to comply with financial regulations, tax laws, or audit requirements. Additionally, we retain some data to maintain the security and integrity of our Service – such as logs of access to our systems, which can help us detect fraud or unauthorized activity. Operationally, even if you stop using the Service without deleting your account, we might retain your data for a reasonable period in case you return, unless you specifically request deletion.
Currently, MeetYourClass does not enforce a fixed blanket retention schedule (like “we delete all data after X years”); instead, we periodically review the data we hold. During these reviews, if we identify Personal Data that is no longer needed for any legitimate purpose, we will either anonymize it (so it can no longer be linked to an individual) or delete it. For example, if we accumulate logs that are old and no longer useful, we purge or anonymize those. If we have analytical data that is not needed, we discard it. Our approach is to minimize data over time, keeping only what has ongoing relevance for the Service or is required by law.
Account Deletion and Your Right to Erasure: If you choose to delete your account (as described in §6) or otherwise request that your Personal Data be deleted:
We will permanently remove your personal information from our active user databases. This includes your profile information, login credentials, and any personally identifiable content. After deletion, anyone searching for you on the Service will not find your profile or any content attributed to you.
Data that you have provided which is not personally identifiable or is part of another user’s content (for example, if you made a post in a group that also has replies from others) may be anonymized rather than completely deleted – e.g., we might remove your name and label the post as from a “Deleted User,” since simply deleting some content might disrupt a conversation thread. But any personal identifiers will be gone.
We will cease all routine processing of your data. You will no longer receive any communications from us (aside from perhaps a confirmation that your account was deleted, if not already shown on screen).
Residual Data and Backups: It’s important to understand that complete instantaneous deletion from all systems is sometimes impossible due to how data storage works. MeetYourClass, like many services, utilizes backups and redundant systems to ensure reliability and disaster recovery. When you delete your account or data, we immediately purge the data from the “live” database. However, copies of some data may exist in backup files that were created as part of our regular backup processes (for example, a snapshot of the database from the previous day might still contain your data). These backup copies are stored securely and are not readily accessible for routine business use – they are kept only for recovery in case of catastrophic events (like a major database failure). We do not use backup data for any active purpose, and backup files are themselves subject to scheduled deletion or overwrite after a certain period. In short, if your data lingers in a backup, it will remain there only temporarily and will be destroyed or overwritten in the normal course of our backup maintenance cycle.
Additionally, after deletion, there are a few categories of data that we may retain for a limited period despite your account removal, due to legal or protective reasons. Examples include:
Transaction records: If you made any payments or we otherwise are required to keep financial transaction logs (for accounting, tax, or regulatory purposes), we will retain those records as required by law. These might include your name, the transaction date, amount, and method, but not more than necessary. Typically, such records might be kept for a number of years as mandated by tax authorities or financial regulations.
Security and fraud prevention logs: We may retain certain logs or records that are relevant to detecting fraud, security breaches, or other malicious activity. For instance, if our system noted that a particular account (now deleted) had multiple failed login attempts or engaged in behavior flagged as abusive, we might keep a record of that associated IP or device in order to bolster our security measures. We do this to protect our platform and users – for example, to ensure that if someone tried to misuse our Service and then deleted their account, we have a way to recognize and block continuing malicious activity.
Legal compliance and dispute records: If your data is needed for us to establish, exercise, or defend against legal claims – such as if there is an ongoing dispute, investigation, or litigation – we will retain the necessary information until the issue is resolved. Similarly, if required by law to keep information (for example, an official government request or order to preserve data), we will comply with those obligations.
Any such retained information will be stored securely and isolated from everyday use of the Service. We implement access controls so that only authorized personnel with a valid reason can access retained archives. We will not use retained data for any new or unrelated purposes – it’s kept only for the reasons stated (compliance, security, etc.). We also commit to purging retained records once they are no longer needed. For example, once a legal hold is lifted or a dispute resolved, we delete the related data if the account was already deleted. Likewise, as our retention obligations (like a statute of limitations or regulatory requirement) lapse, we erase the data.
Third-Party Data Retention: As noted in §6, if your Personal Data was exported to or shared with third parties (such as University Partners or third-party marketing partners) before deletion or opt-out, those third parties will have their own retention policies and obligations. We require through our agreements that our partners only keep your data for the allowed purposes and not indefinitely. For instance, a University Partner likely treats your data as an education record or prospective student record and will retain or delete it in line with their official records retention schedule or applicable law. A marketing partner is generally expected to use your data for a one-time or short-term campaign and not retain it longer than necessary to complete that. All such external use of your data is bound by **their privacy policies and the contractual use limitations we have imposed (for example, not using it beyond the agreed purpose, not retaining it beyond a certain time without cause, etc.). If you have concerns or inquiries about data that may reside with one of our partners, you may contact us or that third party directly. We will assist in communicating deletion or suppression requests to any third party that received your data from us, to the extent we can.
In summary, MeetYourClass’s policy is to retain personal information only for as long as it serves the purposes stated and as long as required by law, and no longer. We aim to delete or anonymize data when it’s no longer needed. If you have specific questions about our data retention practices (for example, “How long will you keep X type of data?”), feel free to reach out to us at our contact points in §13 and we will provide you with more detailed information tailored to your inquiry.
We primarily process and store Personal Data in the United States. Some service providers may process data in other countries as part of their global infrastructure.
Regardless of location, providers are required to implement appropriate safeguards. Where applicable, we rely on standard data-transfer mechanisms (e.g., Standard Contractual Clauses offered by major cloud vendors) and technical/organizational measures to protect Personal Data.
By using the Service, you acknowledge that your information may be processed in the U.S. and other jurisdictions consistent with this Policy.
We implement industry-standard technical and organizational measures to protect Personal Data, including encryption in transit, role-based access controls, monitoring and alerting, and use of reputable cloud providers with strong security programs.
We maintain vulnerability management and incident response processes and address identified issues promptly. If a data breach occurs that triggers a legal notification duty, we will notify affected users and/or regulators as required by law.
No method of transmission or storage is 100% secure. We continuously work to improve our safeguards.
The Service is not directed to children under 13, and we do not knowingly collect Personal Data from children under 13. If we learn we have collected such data, we will delete it.
Parents or guardians who believe their child has provided Personal Data may contact team@meetyourclassinc.com.
Our Service may contain links to websites, content, or services that are operated by third parties and are outside of our control. For example, within our platform you might find: links to university websites or portals, links to scholarship sites, social media groups, or news articles; or perhaps banner images or posts that, when clicked, take you to an external site (like a student blog or a partner’s website). Additionally, users might share external links in posts or chats.
Please be aware that if you click on a third-party link, you will be redirected away from MeetYourClass to that third party’s environment. This Privacy Policy does not apply to any information collected on external websites or services that are not operated by us. We are not responsible for the privacy practices, security, content, or policies of third-party sites or services.
For your protection and information, we recommend that you review the privacy policy (and terms of service) of every external website you visit before providing any Personal Data or engaging with the site. Third-party sites might have their own practices regarding cookies, data collection, and data usage that differ from ours. They might also solicit personal information from you for account creation, mailing lists, or transactions. You provide data to those sites at your own risk.
When we include a link on our Service, it does not imply that we have reviewed or endorsed the third-party site or its content. For example, if a partner university’s logo or link is on our platform, that is usually to facilitate your navigation or provide a resource – but their site will have its own privacy disclosures which you should consult. The same goes for any advertisements or promotions by third parties that might appear in the Service; although we strive to only allow trustworthy content, we can’t guarantee and are not liable for what happens on a third-party page.
Security on External Sites: Keep in mind that external sites might not have the same level of security measures that we employ. Be cautious when entering personal details on any site. Check for “https” and trust indicators in your browser for any site that asks for sensitive info like passwords or payment details.
If you believe you have reached a fraudulent site via a link on our Service, or if an external link from our Service led to a harmful experience (such as a phishing page), please inform us immediately. We will investigate and remove any such link if it poses a risk to our users.
In summary, your interactions on any website other than meetyourclass.com (or our official mobile app, if applicable) are not governed by this Privacy Policy. Always exercise due diligence and caution when navigating away from our Service.
We may update this Policy from time to time. We will post the updated “Last Updated” date, and for material changes we will provide a prominent in-product notice before they take effect. Your continued use after the effective date constitutes acceptance of the updated Policy. Where required by law, we will provide additional notice or obtain consent.
If you have any questions, concerns, or requests regarding this Privacy Policy or the way we handle your Personal Data, please do not hesitate to reach out to us. We are here to help and address any issues or feedback you may have. You can contact the MeetYourClass team through any of the following methods:
Email: You can email our team at team@meetyourclassinc.com. This is often the quickest way to reach us for privacy-related inquiries. Please include a clear subject line (e.g., “Privacy Inquiry” or “Data Deletion Request”) and detail your question or request in the body of the email. The appropriate person on our team will respond as soon as possible.
Online Contact Form: We have a contact form on our website. Visit our Contact Us page at meetyourclass.com/contact and fill out the form with your query. If your inquiry is about privacy or data, please indicate that in your message so we can route it correctly.
Mailing Address: You may also contact us via physical mail. Our corporate mailing address is:
1420 Washington Blvd #301, Detroit, MI 48226
Attn: Privacy Team (or Data Protection Officer, if applicable)
Please note that if you send physical mail, it might take longer for us to receive and respond. If you have an urgent request (such as a time-sensitive data access or deletion request), we recommend using email or the contact form instead, and only using postal mail as a follow-up if necessary.
Additional Contact Options: If we establish a dedicated Data Protection Officer (DPO) or representative for certain jurisdictions (for instance, if required under GDPR or other laws), we will update this section with their contact details. For now, the above contact points will reach the appropriate privacy personnel within our small organization.
What to Expect: When you contact us, we may ask you to verify your identity, especially for requests involving personal data (to ensure we don’t disclose data to the wrong person or delete the wrong account, for example). We will try to acknowledge your request within a reasonable timeframe (typically within a few business days) and address it in accordance with applicable laws. For data access or deletion requests, we generally aim to complete the request within 30 days, but will inform you if we expect it to take longer or if we need additional information to process it.
We appreciate feedback about our privacy practices. If there’s something you feel is unclear or not adequately covered by this Policy, let us know – we may be able to clarify it for you and perhaps improve our Policy in the next update.
Finally, if you need to escalate a privacy concern that we have not adequately addressed, you may have the right to contact your local data protection authority (if one exists in your jurisdiction). We would, however, appreciate the chance to directly address your concerns first.
Thank you for taking the time to read our Privacy Policy. Your trust is important to us, and we are dedicated to safeguarding your personal information while providing you with a valuable Service. If you have any questions or need further clarification on any point, please reach out using the contact information above.
